Salt Scrub – The Best Body Exfoliator Since 3000 BC
What if achieving beautiful, glowing skin was as easy as throwing some salt on it?
Salt scrubs have been used widely for exfoliating dull skin, as well as infusing it with minerals which naturally occur in salt.
Though we generally regard salt as a kitchen staple, that little granule is versatile enough to establish itself as a beauty essential as well.
There are different types of salt which can be used in making a salt scrub, either sea salt or regular rock salt.
Sea salt scrubs are more popular as they originate in the sea and contain more minerals, most notably Dead Sea salt scrubs which are regarded worldwide for their exfoliation magic in bath scrubs.
Rock salt is regular mined salt, which can also be used as exfoliant but contains less naturally occurring minerals. Either salt commits to its role of exfoliating your skin by scrubbing away the dull top layer & dead skin cells, revealing youthful and vibrant skin.
The Dead Sea contains ten times more mineral and salt content than other bodies of water, thus the popularity of extracting sea salt scrubs from this particular locale.
In the times of ancient Egypt, it was thought to be a place of therapeutic rest and relaxation, and was a beauty secret of the ancients. Immersing oneself in a soak of dead sea salts was said to calm nerves, reduce stress and beautify skin.
Why not follow in their wise footsteps?
Preparing a salt scrub is relatively simple, and the ingredient list can be customized to your liking. A simple homemade salt scrub can be prepared using sea salt from a grocery store, or you may custom order Dead Sea salt from an online retailer for a more luxurious experience. The making of the salt scrub involves only simple measuring, mixing and canning.
The following recipes are a good base for a beginner looking to create a simple salt scrub, please follow this website for more advanced recipes.
Salt Scrub Recipe using Sea Salt
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Sea S alt (can be purchased at grocery store)
- 1 cup Olive Oil
- 3-5 drops Essential Oil (for fragrance)
Mix sea salt and olive oil together until well incorporated, make sure scrub is not too runny and thick enough – add more salt if necessary.
Store in sealed container for later use.
This is a simple base recipe which can be customized with different types of organic oils, as well as different scents depending on your preference.
Once you are ready to use it, exfoliate in gentle circular strokes to slough off dead skin cells and rinse off.
Tip: Don’t worry about the olive oil, it is naturally moisturizing but doesn’t clog pores.
Almond Oil & Sea Salt Scrub Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups Sea Salt
- ½ cup Almond Oil
- ½ cup Olive Oil
- 1 tsp. Vitamin E Oil
- 2 drops Essential Oil (We recommend lavender/vanilla)
Mix together sea salt, almond oil and olive oil until everything is to your desired consistency. Add in vitamin E oil and essential oil at the end, incorporate well.
I recommend using lavender or vanilla essential oils for this salt scrub, as they complement well with the almond oil. Also, lavender is known for its relaxing scent and qualities, perfect for a homemade salt scrub.
Fact: Vitamin E oil has anti-aging properties by reducing appearance of scars, fine lines and protecting your skin after sun burns.
Making a salt scrub can be a fulfilling and simple task, not to mention a great deal over the department store prices for salt scrubs. Simple sea salt scrubs such as coconut oil body scrub, or olive body scrub are a luxurious way to nourish your skin, as well as exfoliate on a regular basis. Sometimes, we don’t realize that our dead skin cells are making our skin look dull, so regular exfoliation is key.
