Exfoliating Body Scrub: Great Skin in Less Than a Minute!
Exfoliating body scrubs are one of the most important in the family of bath scrubs, as they truly invigorate and renew your skin.
What would be the point of taking the time to moisturize and soothe dead skin cells anyways?
It would be a waste to use products on skin that should be scrubbed away, which is where exfoliating body scrubs come in.
Exfoliation is the process of sloughing away the dull, top layer of skin which is littered with dead skin cells. Though this is natural, if you do not properly exfoliate, you may be carrying around dull skin cells which are inhibiting your skin’s youthfulness.
By using an exfoliating body scrub, each time you get in the shower to pamper yourself you will also be getting rid of that dull skin. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
Benefits of Exfoliation
• Slough away dull, dead skin cells on surface of skin
• Uncover new, glowing skin underneath
• Infuse new layer of skin with naturally occurring moisture and minerals through bath scrub
Exfoliating Ingredients in Body Scrubs
Depending on your skin’s dryness and other factors, you can choose which type of exfoliating ingredient to use in your homemade exfoliating body scrub.
The two most common are salt and sugar and each have their own specific properties. Salt is perfect if you have rough, coarse skin that needs extra exfoliating power; while sugar is best suited for more sensitive skin types.
If you are looking to be more adventurous, try some coffee or oatmeal as your exfoliant (or morning snack!).
Coffee’s natural caffeine offers rejuvenation in the body scrub and can assist with bumps and cellulite. Though there is no proven cure for cellulite, caffeine in an exfoliating body scrub (couple with circular, scrubbing motions) have been proven to help reduce it.
As for oatmeal, it has amino acids and a hypo-allergenic quality which helps it soothe even the most sensitive skin while exfoliating. If you suffer from acne-prone skin or are very sensitive, use oatmeal to begin with and work your way up to other exfoliants.
Tip: Always test your exfoliating body scrub on a small patch of skin to avoid unintended allergies.
Any ingredients you choose in your exfoliating body scrub must be suited to your skin type and personal taste. Add in fun scents (essential oils) to create a spa experience right in your own home!
